The weekend is going by in a blur.

:: this past weekend I tried to keep a running mental list of things I wanted to tell you about… I think I’ve forgotten too many of them.
:: last week included, 2 lax games, 2 track meets, too many practices, a chorus concert, an AP World History exam, and a 43rd birthday.
:: there is a lot of beauty in the blur of life whizzing by.
:: the garden is all planted and Ron is trying new things.
:: 20+ tomatoes, 100+ garlic heads, melon, cauliflower, broccoli, beans, squash, peppers, raspberries, blueberries, carrots, onions, lettuce, cucumbers, and zucchini… oh my… Ron is doing such a good job with it all, he deserves all the credit.
:: we really wanted to add a peach tree to our collection this year but can’t seem to get our hands on the one we want.
:: recently discovered The Great British Sewing Bee and was instantly hooked, thank you Lindsey… makes me want to perfect my top stitching and completely rework my sentence structures all at the same time.
:: today is beyond important/exciting/nerve-wracking/pivotal in an area of secret keeping I’ve been doing. I’m all a flutter, wish me luck, even if you can’t know what for.
:: started knitting the first sleeve on my Effortless cardigan… 5+ years knitting now and I still get ladders when using double pointeds, so I twirl the needles as I go.
:: today will mark week 7 of my return to running on a regular basis… I’m so glad I started back up.
:: saw Star Trek Into Darkness yesterday… cried like a baby and loved it.
:: oh, I think I perfected something new/cool with Viking Knit last week… oh how I love learning new things.
:: downloaded Lana Del Ray album, Born to Die, and I love it too.
:: my stars I “love” a lot of things these days.

I really hope this feeling lasts all day.

I had a pretty stellar, overwhelmingly awesome, and full week last week. It quite literally had me jumping for joy. I’ve been missing a sense of lightness and I’m so thankful to have it wiggling its way back into my everyday.

The Color Run was on Saturday, YaY! What total, awesome, colorful fun! I huge thank you to my sister, Bonnie, for coming out with Dad and me and playing the roll of photographer. She got some amazing shots. Pop over to Flickr: The Color Run to see more.

I can’t wait to run it again next year.

Because I CARE

May 2, 2013 · 9 comments

And I love that its covering my driveway in pink and white.

The weather has officially turned. It’s spring, most assuredly. We are sleeping with windows open, our magnolia tree is nothing short of spectacular, coats are all tucked away in the closet rather than on the coat rack, and last night we ate dinner outside on the deck. Time is flying at high speed towards the end of the school year for the kids and the start of my return to school.

My first class, Communications 101: Introduction to Mass Media, starts in just a couple of weeks (May 28th). Yesterday, I spent some time trying to get into the habit of checking my student email and learning about the online platform where my class will be hosted. I sent emails about orientation and class advisement too. I also decided to pay my tuition for the semester.

Oh what an unexpected, emotional, and quite physical reaction I had to that.

As soon as I typed in my credit card information and hit submit payment, I was completely washed over with fear. I was holding back hard against tears at the corners of my eyes, I felt my heart rate quicken, and I just wanted to throw up. Even as I type this and try to think of how I want to explain my thoughts/feelings, nerves have my hands wringing.

Sending in that payment yesterday made the act of returning to school feel all the realer and it brought to the surface a moment of vulnerability that I truly wasn’t excepting.

Can I do this? What if I’m not smart anymore? What if it’s all over my head? What if I suck at writing papers? What if I make a fool of myself?

Not to mention the financial side… I’m struggling with the guilt of spending/investing so much in myself when Jacob needs braces and Ron’s job is always in jeopardy and and and…

I called Ron yesterday when all these feelings were causing my heart and stomach to flutter. I could hear his smirking smile on the other end of the line, his knowing. He did as he always does, with his constant sense of logic and practicality, he assured me this is all going to be a breeze and that I’m beyond capable. I think that is one way we balance each other. I’m all emotion, he is all logic. He spoke to the part of my brain that knows better than my racing heart.

So, I know, I know, this is the right thing to be doing.

Still fluttering though, I also sought comfort with my dearest college professor friend, Lindsey. (We journal text so much she and I.) She had just the reminder needed, and as soon as I read her word… really, my word… with a deep sigh I let it go. She said…

Being a flutter is a good thing. You CARE. :)

YES!!

I care. I care so much… about learning and growing… about my family and their needs… about acceptance and excelling… and, about knowing and not knowing.

I knew care would be the right word for me this year, but I don’t think I knew just how right.

Something on the Side

sideprojects

I’ve been working on lots of little side projects that I’ve been lax in sharing here. It’s about time I caught you up on all the details!

Oh The Color – Oh my stars am I loving being part of this fantastic new color lover project by the color guru herself, Bandi Hussey! Go there, bookmark it, and pop in daily to see a swash of inspiring color.

I pinned a link to a beaded bead tutorial a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t get them off the brain. I’m so thankful for the help of my friend Bev Herman. With her encouragement and talent, I got it and can now add the beautiful texture of beaded beads to my designs.

Did I tell you? I’m acting as team photographer for the varsity lacrosse team. Jacob is #44 and a starting long pole defensive player. I also shot Andrew’s first ever track meet too!! I’ll get those photos edited and posted soon. I’m so happy that we’ve found something that he can proudly be a part of.

On Friday, I took my studio from THIS to THIS. And I think for the first time in WEEKS, I’m actually feeling like I want to get to the studio just as soon as the kids leave for school so I can light my torch and get to work. It’s a welcome feeling and I have a deadline for my Color Canvas article next week. So, the timing is good.

I’m going to do The Color Run Rochester on May 4th and I can’t wait!

I’m seriously considering a website overhaul. I’m hearing really good things about WordPress plugins for shops and I’m wondering if it might be time to kick my old zen cart based site to the curb and better utilize this space. I’m also thinking it might be time to sign up for mail chimp and get a proper newsletter going too. What do y’all think? Should I leave well enough alone or are you ready for some changes too?

I’m halfway through the body on this sweater. I love this pattern.

Oh, I downloaded the Get Running app a couple of weeks ago and I’m already on Week 3 Run 1! It feels good to be running again. Well, for the most part. Some days are tougher than others but that’s to be expected.

So… what projects are you all working on in your spare time?

Limbo, Leaping, Learning

April 13, 2013

I dropped a bit of an information bomb on you on Monday. And really, it felt like a bit of a bomb in my own thinking as well. Often times, saying/posting things here make them so much more real. There were only just few that knew of my plan and it all happened so quickly that [...]
